For a long time now we've talked about color-blocking walls to create a dramatic look to a room. Color-blocking essentially refers to paint one wall in your room a different color than the rest. The more contrast between the colors (a dark red wall in a taupe room) the more dramatic the effect. When I was at
Winward last week, a to-the-trade silk flower supplier, I saw this perfect vignette that modified color-blocking by creating a smaller scale "block" on the wall.
I love the simplicity of the vignette. It takes color-blocking to an accessible - and easy - project. Better still, you don't need to commit a lot of time to creating it. But most of all, I love that it is just a nice and effective way to highlight or "frame" a larger object in the room. You could create a "headboard" in a bedroom or try paint half the wall to create the illusion of more height in a room. To read more about color-blocking, the blog
