A raised wood deck under the trees offers the ultimate chill-out zone.

This leafy backyard in St-Bruno, Que., already had the ultimate tool for beating summer heat: an in-ground pool. But the yard’s single patio didn’t capitalize on the large lot. To maximize the space, designer Jacinthe Leroux added a series of floating decks around the pool. She replaced the existing pool deck with gravel for a Zenlike feel, and used rectangular stepping stones to connect the decks. On this deck, a chaise beckons for max lounging pleasure, and a table provides a spot for serving cold drinks. The tiled panel adds style and a sense of privacy.
