A space always looks celebratory when bathed in the glow of candlelight. Dim overheads and set up candles in select areas like on a mantel. Be parepared by keeping a stock of plain white candles in different sizes, plus a selection of glass candle holders.
Candles being unruly?
IF YOUR TAPERED CANDLE IS...
Small: Wrap the bottom in tape. Medical tape is the best, but clear adhesive tape works well, too.
Long: Snip off the end using garden pruners, which makes a cleaner, more precise cut than scissor or a knife.
Wobbly: Heat the bottom using a blow-dryer on the high setting until the wax softens, then quickly place it in the candle holder.
Large: Shave around the bottom using a vegetable peeler. Check the fit every few slices.
