The coziest fireplaces made for winter hibernation

You've decked the halls, hung the stockings, trimmed the tree and even baked every holiday cookie recipe you know (and even if you haven't, you've thought about it and that's exhausting, too). Now it's time to relax, let it snow and have a cozy night in while winter carries on outside. To keep you feeling warm thoughts, we've rounded up our favourite fireplaces that we would love to cozy up to all winter long.

Cozy Canadian home

"Turn your home into a cozy Christmas haven with a little Canadiana inspiration. Introduce warm woods and rich reds, decorated with natural materials that will transform your home into a cozy country cabin."

"In the main living room of this converted heritage schoolhouse, the doors flanking the fireplace mantel are the original boys' and girls' entrances to the school. Stained-glass windows were added in a previous renovation."

"Throughout the home, interior walls are clad in horizontal pine planks, modernized with glossy white paint, and the ceiling beams are exposed for a loft-like feel. The living room fireplace, with its floor-to-ceiling surround, features the same bricks used on the floor and outdoor patio."

"The family room is all about the stone fireplace and the driftwood coffee table," says Dave Leavitt, general manager of Fox Design Studio. "They share an organic sensibility that brings the beauty of the landscape in and represents the tranquility of the beach and all of its colours."

Warm backdrop

"In the living area, the black chandelier draws the eye up to the cathedral ceiling. The armchair beside the fireplace has special meaning – it came with the property. “There was a small house on the land and we found this lovely armchair inside, so it seemed only right to refinish it and give it new life,” says Lidia."

Festive, comfy and warm

"Simple flourishes: grey stockings, a rubyred wreath, fresh-cut amaryllis and a boxwood garland strike a quaint Christmas scene."

Centre of attention

"Susan traded two antique French chairs for these blue mid-century ones from her mother, which serve as a pop of colour and a modern element. The hits of blue are repeated in toss cushions in the library and a throw in the master bedroom. “Continued colour connects the spaces,” she says."

Charming hits of feminine flair

The rug in the family room was the starting point for the home’s subtle, pretty colour palette. Although the scheme is decidedly feminine, Jennifer balanced it with masculine clean-lined furnishings like the sofa, armchairs and bench.
