DIY project: Mossy pots
It's amazing how a little patina on your garden accessories can transport you straight to Tuscany, where everything is more beautiful because of its old age. Pretty patterns with a rustic charm are not only perfect for creating a casual-chic vignette but also for gifting. Materials
- Terracotta pot
- Textured spray paint
- Low-grit sandpaper
- Natural sponge
- Tester pot of moss green paint
- Tester pot of turquoise coloured paint
- Plate
Instructions
1 Spray the entire gardening pot inside and out with textured spray paint; let dry.
2 To give the illusion of weathering, lightly sand the surface in patches.
3 Using a sponge, dab on the green paint in a random pattern. Rinse the sponge.
4 Repeat step 3 using the turquoise paint.
5 Pour a bit of green and turquoise paint onto a plate, and mix to create a brown colour. Repeat step 3.
6 Continue layering the three colours until you have achieved the desired mossy look.
7 Repeat with different sizes of pots as desired; there are enough materials to paint dozens and fill your greenhouse and garden!
Tip: Layering colours helps create that naturally mossed look.
