How to: Make a daybed

Before the DIY.
Materials
- Twin bed with mattress
- Steel wool
- Paintbrush
- Paint
- Five 1" x 5" wooden boards

Instructions
1 Remove the mattress.
2 Rub the metal bed frame with steel wool to remove any flaking paint or rust.
3 Using a paintbrush, apply three coats of paint (we used Tremclad Rust Paint in Gloss Yellow); let each coat dry thoroughly. If the bed has a spindly frame like this one, use a brush-on paint.
4 Create a mattress platform by cutting the five boards to the width of the frame and placing them across the side rails, spaced evenly from head to foot.
5 Have the mattress and throw pillows professionally upholstered in fabrics of your choice.
