The first thing decorating blogger and online retailer Louise Bell learned when she started
tabletonic.blogspot.com was that people wanted a glimpse of her private life. "I thought it made sense," she says, "so I try to open a little window into my world -- even if it's just the mundane!"
Mundane, frankly, is the last word anyone would use to describe the Federation-style home Louise decorated and designed with her husband, Graeme, an architect. Maybe it's the bright bits of colour that burst where least expected. Maybe it's the collections of quirky artifacts she skillfully clusters together. Or maybe it's the devil-may-care attitude. But somehow, every room in her house seems to giggle and shine.
Eclectic lighting Sure, this Floyd Paxton pendant was a splurge, but "It was worth it!" says homeowner Louise Bell. And we agree: standout fixtures make a great focal point in any fashionable room.
Natural elements An ode to nature gone mod: these rustic antlers purchased on eBay pair perfectly with the avant-garde fixture above.
Graphic type Modern or antique, numeral or alphabetical, meaningful (or not!), graphic type -- from Helvetica to Bodoni -- adds a little easy eye candy.
Feathers Soft, graphic and undeniably fun, a giant feather headdress hung on the wall makes a bold statement.
Busts Greco-Roman beauties aren't just for art historians. Available in a range of materials and prices, they're an accessible, cultured style accent.
Chunky countertops An oversize profile is a surefire way to add a high-end look to your kitchen.
Bronze lamps Bronze and brass are mostly associated with traditional interiors, but these days they get a stylish, urban feel from modern silhouettes and a rough, industrial patina.
Tribal patterns Coverings featuring vibrant patterns and colours liven up timeless crisp white bedding.

Caramel colours Back from the '70s, caramel and toffee tones are a warm and inviting alternative to last year's cool grey.
