The custom-made vanity elegantly mixes modern flair and vintage charm with its chrome base and carrara marble top. A mirrored chest fits perfectly in between.
Designer: Ingrid Oomen
Headquarters: Toronto
Best known for: Ingrid has been dreaming up posh interiors for homeowners for more than 10 years. Her design firm, Qummunicate inc., is known for its clean, polished approach with a dash of the unexpected.
Design Philosophy: “I love to add injections of texture and vintage materials to sleek spaces,” says ingrid. “It’s all about using elements that don’t necessarily seem to work but once they come together they have a cohesive feel to them.”
The free-standing bathtub was installed directly opposite the entrance to act as a dramatic focal point.
What was the inspiration for this bathroom?
Ingrid Oomen: Calm and contemporary with a touch of European flair. “I think a lot of people might think the elements in this room don’t match, but that’s the point,” says Ingrid. “Designers always say you shouldn’t have a matching set of living room or bedroom furniture – I feel the same way about bathroom fixtures.”
The extra-long vanity allows plenty of counter space for pretty toiletries like French soaps.
How can you get this look on a limited budget?
IO: To achieve this look, stick to a soft white palette, emphasize one or two focal points in the room and keep everything else bright, airy and open. Ingrid recommends investing in fixtures and natural finishes like marble and getting creative to cut costs elsewhere. In this bathroom, she repurposed two chrome bases and placed a single piece of Carrara marble on top to create a dramatic his-and-hers vanity for a fraction of the cost of custom millwork.
