Designer Shirley Meisels uses a mix of design elements to update the den of a traditional Georgian-style home and bring it into the 21st century with style.

How did she do it?
1. Cherished furniture was reupholstered in neutral tones to suit the relaxed vibe of the room.
2. Plush patterned toss cushions add a hint of femininity while taking comfort to the next level.
3. A low-profile coffee table keeps sight lines open; its contemporary silhouette lends interest to a space that could otherwise seem static.

4. The subtle sheen of a metallic bowl creates just the right amount of sparkle to make an impact.
5. Underscored in the colours of the coffee table books, a palette of soothing hues was deliberately used to keep this space relaxed and timeless.
